Dr Michael Leary was appointed Executive Director of Christian Embassy London in August 2010. He directs a multinational team with the strategic objective of serving the spiritual, social and professional needs of London’s leadership communities, primarily through interfaith dialogue, special events, and networking leaders in the government, diplomatic and executive sectors.
Before his appointment as Executive Director, Dr Leary served as Deputy Director of Christian Embassy at the United Nations for over 20 years where he was the author and facilitator of numerous studies and seminars addressing the Christian perspective on topics ranging from tolerance to terrorism and from human rights to leadership.
For over a decade before that, Dr Leary was the Campus Minister at several universities in New York State, addressing contemporary social and spiritual issues with professors and students in classrooms and appointments on topics related to Christian history, faith and practice.
Dr Leary was born and educated in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Virginia Tech (1974), a Master of Divinity in Interfaith Communication at Alliance Theological Seminary (1990), and a Doctor of Philosophy at Regent University (2005). His dissertation topic was Dialogue Among Nations. An Ethnographic Study of Interpersonal, Intercultural Diplomatic Negotiations in the Multilateral Context of the United Nations.
Dr Leary is married to Gay Ann Leary, whose work with Christian Embassy has developed into life-long friendships with many wives of Ambassadors and High Commissioners. They have three adult sons and three grandchildren.
